Valentina bonnet Knitting Pattern

Pattern Description

Baby bonnet designed for a Fair Isle workshop so that the more challenging parts were done in the class, and the easier parts (frill and neckband) could be completed afterwards. Instructions, written, charts and photos, are for 3 sizes, with 5 colour suggestions. 

Bonnet will fit head circumference of approximately 35-38 (40-43:46-49) cm. Centre back to front edge is approximately 12 (16:19) cm.

 

 

Size

Head circumference 35-38, 40-43, 46-49 cm

Materials Required

Shetland Heritage 100% Real Shetland Wool from Jamieson and Smith, using 6 different for each hat. It is a good way of using up small amounts of yarn.

3.0mm double pointed needles (DPNs, 3 or 4 needles 15-20cm long) or size needed to match tension

Circular needles (40 or 60cm long) can be used but DPNs will be much easier to use as stitch numbers decrease.

SIZING

Bonnet will fit head circumference of approximately 35-38 (40-43:46-49) cm. Centre back to front edge is approximately 12 (16:19) cm. Front opening is approximately 29 (35:38) cm.

Using larger or smaller needles will give a slightly larger or smaller bonnet.

For frill, use circular needle or two straight needles 30-35cm long.
